Which is the best sound type/format to go for today
that is really going to depend on just what equipment you have, the mix, and the application. I would suggest to listen to both and see which you prefer, with every disk they will be variations. I keep a log of which I like with each disk I get.
If you have full size fronts and rears DTS usually is preferred.
Also note that depending on your hook up your receiver and or DVD player must both support the format, using discrete outputs on the DVD it only must support the format.
